Maldon District Council are working with Let's Do Business Group to bring networking events to the District
In a gathering that saw approximately 40 businesses convene at the Blue Boar Hotel, Maldon, on Friday 10th November, Backing Essex Business and Maldon District Council jointly hosted a dynamic business breakfast, generously supported by, Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP. The event was attended by Cllr Richard Siddall, the Leader of Maldon District Council, who extended a warm welcome to the attendees.
The focal point of the gathering was the introduction of Maldon District Council's new local business program, aimed at enhancing communication channels between the Council and businesses within the district. This initiative, which has been funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund intends to utilise various media platforms to disseminate pertinent news and information, whilst also facilitating direct engagement through business-focused events and networking opportunities.
Given that a staggering 90% of businesses within the district fall under the micro-business classification, the Council is committed to providing targeted support during these challenging economic times. Their goal is to not only ensure the survival but the thriving and growth of these businesses, thereby creating employment opportunities for local residents. To gather valuable insights, the Council encouraged both residents and businesses to participate in their Annual Survey, offering a chance to win one of two £50 Amazon Vouchers.
In an exciting announcement, the Council revealed its imminent opening of the Rural England Prosperity Fund, available to both businesses and community organizations. Details on how to apply will be shared in the coming weeks.
Robert Laurie from Backing Essex Business, partially funded via the North Essex Economic Board, outlined the plethora of free support and advice available to businesses across the district. This support, made possible through UK Social Prosperity Funding, aims to empower businesses and foster economic growth.
Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP then provided a comprehensive overview of both central government support for the business community and his personal interactions with businesses across the district. The event's highlight was a Q&A session to both the Councillor Siddall and Sir John, which provided business owners with a platform to discuss government and council policies, as well as local issues affecting businesses and residents within the district.
Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; “I would like to thank all of the businesses who attended the first of what we hope will be many more events like this. The success of this business breakfast demonstrates the Council’s commitment to local businesses and the support of Backing Essex Business in the Maldon District. It was a pleasure to welcome Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP to the event showing his and the councils support for local businesses and highlighting their importance to the economic prosperity of the Maldon district.
