James Crisp has a long history within the creative industry, working for various agencies before deciding to create a business of his own. With a deep-rooted passion for Maldon, and the areas surrounding, he wanted to provide a service that would be accessible to new businesses and SME’s, that would help them to build their brand and communicate their business ethos through graphic design.

“I get a lot of enjoyment out of supporting small businesses. I want them to be able to make the same impact that larger businesses with much larger marketing budgets are able to achieve. I’ve been privileged to work with some brilliant family run and orientated businesses across Essex, helping their small brands to have a big brand impact.”

Web design is a core part of Crisp Design, accounting for a large proportion of the projects commissioned. James specialises in creating functional, user-friendly websites primarily using WordPress. His expertise ensures that each website not only looks good but also provides a seamless user experience. Despite the technological challenges, James's design philosophy centres on effective communication and user satisfaction.

Collaboration and local knowledge has been a key driving factor for Crisp Design and has helped James to continue to grow the business and strengthen his service offerings. A memorable project for James was that of ‘The Dog Club’ a doggy day care service whom he started working with in 2022. A business led by a husband and wife team, Crisp Design has been there from the outside, providing a comprehensive design service for them, including logo, website, and leaflet designs. As The Dog Club evolved, James has continued to support their growth with additional services like flags, a gazebo, and van livery designs. This collaboration with the husband-and-wife team behind The Dog Club has been particularly fulfilling for James, and highlights his dedication and personal satisfaction he gets from his clients' success.

2 years ago, when looking on how to make the next step with the business, James took it to a whole new level, launching ‘Crisp Photography’. Using his passion for the area, and excellent eye for photography he started capturing local Maldon Landscapes selling the prints online as well as making himself available to businesses looking to capture the ‘Essence’ of Maldon.

In 2024 Crisp Photography has now gathered traction, being commissioned for numerous local photography projects, including taking photos for 14 different local walks. This work showcases James’s deep connection to the Maldon area and his ability to bring out the unique beauty of its landscapes.

“I love being able to share Maldon with other people. It seems there are quite a few photographers that have connections with Maldon, and I can understand why. There are so many picturesque places to showcase, I absolutely love living here”.

Adding this element to the business secures the future of the ‘Crisp’ brand, offering a fully comprehensive package that complements the work Crisp Design. By integrating photography and design, James can provide a holistic service that meets all of his clients' visual communication needs.
