Minot Brothers
Who are Minot Brothers?
Specialising in Net Zero and sustainable practices, Minot Brothers are a plant hire company which leases out machinery – from diggers and dumpers to telehandlers and generators – most of which are predominantly electric. Having an understanding that for most businesses in the construction industry it is impossible to go completely electric at this point in time, they also offer diesel options which use biofuel to help lower emissions on projects.
Working with clients to hit their goals within the time limits and appreciating that each one of their businesses are unique, the team are able to share their knowledge and offer solutions which best fit the client’s needs and allow their projects to run successfully.
“One or two percent lower than what it was is better than nothing. Sometimes you can get one hundred percent electric machinery on a site, other times you can’t, but we will try and aim to get to 50-50.”
– Mr Minot, Co-Founder, Minot Brothers
The idea for Minot Brothers first came to fruition over a year ago, with the business then being set up six months later. Being a fairly new company, The Minot brothers are shaking up the industry by being the first plant hire company with this idea!
With their plans to set up a plant hire company, the two wanted something that could differentiate themselves from the ‘bigger players’, and keeping sustainable practices at the forefront, after looking into it further through research, they decided to go down the electric route.
Taking initiative, They wrote a letter to Lord Bamford, Chairman of JCB, not expecting a response, but to his surprise he received a response back asking to meet. Now with the support from JCB who agreed that this business is a great idea, the two cemented that their business could have a true impact.
With interest heightening for the innovative idea, they have already worked with some larger businesses and had meetings with top tier companies including Mace Group, National Highways and Kier Group, as well as working with the Construction Industry Council who are the representative forum for professional bodies, research organisations, and specialist business associations in the UK Construction industry.
Staying up to date with the latest advancements of machines and data in the industry that are constantly being developed, Minot Brothers are heavily monitoring the progression of future plans for machinery.
“Eventually, what will happen is the machines will be electric up to 5 tonnes, and then hydrogen from then onwards. Those advancements will start to come in over the next few years, so we’re monitoring that with JCB who are working on it and will possibly be the first to bring it in.”

Addressing the bigger problem at hand which is that 40% of global carbon emissions stem from transportation and machinery, yet not enough is being done to lower this, the team have been working with a Net Zero committee and Business & Trades department at the House of Commons. With a great network of support, Minot Brothers have now been contributing evidence to provide for the new bills and working on environmental policies, helping to bring in new regulations/frameworks within the industry.
