When former teacher Schalk Meyer opened his first Pro-Tuition centre in Dunmow in early 2020, he had no idea a global pandemic was about to change education overnight. Schools closed just two weeks later, but rather than halting his plans, the timing accelerated demand for high-quality, flexible tuition.
Fast forward four years, and Schalk’s vision has grown into a thriving education business with two dedicated centres, including one in Maldon, which opened in September 2024.
The Maldon centre has quickly become a hub for families looking for tailored academic support. From reception-aged children right through to GCSE students, Pro-Tuition offers a safe, vibrant, and supportive environment. The centres are custom-designed with bright, modern furnishings and welcoming spaces, and every tutor is a fully qualified, DBS-checked teacher.
Pro-Tuition specialises in:
- One-to-one, tailored tuition – every child receives an individual assessment to identify gaps and build a bespoke learning plan.
- 11+ preparation – Schalk and his team bring over 20 years of expertise in preparing students for Essex’s grammar school entrance exams.
- Specialist support – from early years to GCSE, including children with additional needs such as dyslexia or ADHD.
- Alternative provision – from October 2025, Maldon’s centre will also support students not currently in mainstream education, offering maths, English, and science during the school day.
Schalk’s teaching philosophy is simple: “We want to be big enough to cope, but small enough to care.” Rather than focusing on rapid expansion, his goal is to ensure each centre provides the highest quality support to the community it serves.
